Now everyone’s got a website. And there are hundreds of thousands of ready-to-go templates out there that you can get up and running in no time flat.
Problem is, these themes and templates are what everyone else is using too. Now, it’s not necessarily bad to use a theme…it’s only bad to be invisible. And that’s what out-of-the-box solutions usually lead to.
The websites we design are customized to fit you, your message and your audience. And this is a big deal. Because when visitors end up on your site, they have to instantly think, “I’m home.” According to web usability studies, you’ve got just about two or three seconds to grab a visitor’s attention. Then they’re gone.
But you’ve got to be careful. Covering your site with eye-candy, pom-poms and flashy things only tends to cheapen its appearance and make you look like you’re trying a little too hard. A proper website is more about simple branding, function, ease of use, typography, pacing and flow.
When you get that right your visitors will be putty in your hands.
If you’re a details person, you can read a bit about how we create amazing and amazingly functional websites.
What’s this responsive stuff we keep hearing about?
In today’s device-happy climate, where even our kids and grandmas have iPhones, your site has to look good wherever and however your visitors choose to access it.
Meaning it has to be responsive. A responsive site responds and shapes itself to fit whatever device its on: monitors, iPhones and iPads, Kindles and Android devices, even landscape and portrait layouts.
Why does this matter? Well, let me introduce you to Bob.
Bob is a busy guy, and about the only personal internet surfing time he gets every day is when he’s on the subway going to and from work.
On the way home one night, sitting on the shaky subway, Bob stumbles across your website while on his iPhone. Let’s say he sees your book or widget for sale and wants to buy it. If your site is not responsive, there’s gonna be trouble.
Not only is your site tiny and hard to read, every time Bob uses his big fat finger to click something, he misses and clicks something else.
After a couple tries, tired of squinting at your site and losing the fat-finger-clicking game, he gives up.
You just lost a sale, and possibly a fan.
This is a worst case scenario, but it’s also a very common scenario and one that must be solved. According to a recent retail study by IBM, goods sold over mobile devices increased 60% over the third quarter of 2012. That is a significant amount, and one that will not be slowing down.
But you can breathe easy here. This is how we build our sites, to look good and function wherever your visitors are. When Bob is on a shaky subway, your site will shape itself perfectly to his iPhone or Kindle. He’ll have no trouble navigating it (regardless of finger size) and no trouble completing sales through your store.
Your site should work and look sexy wherever it is. Nowadays, that’s a piece of cake to achieve. Ain’t technology grand?
Don’t let web maintenance break the bank
About 99% of our projects are built on WordPress, a brilliant Content Management System which allows you to…well…manage your own content. Gone are the days of paying a webmaster a few hundred bucks to fix some spelling errors. Now you can update your site as often as you wish and be in charge of your own content, without breaking the bank.
And yes, of course we’re available to fix technical issues and code new things as you grow. Just ask if you run into trouble.
Time to start!
It’s time to get yourself an instantly recognizable, efficient and productive website. And don’t worry about competing with all the other websites out there. You’ll be a step above the rest when we’re done with you!
